The people of China have welcomed an end to COVID-19 quarantine for incoming travellers.

On Monday, officials announced that beginning on January 8, visitors will no longer be forced to quarantine upon arrival.

The announcement significantly relaxed the strict COVID-19 rules that had crippled the nation’s economy and provoked widespread unrest.

After Beijing said it would stop the mandatory COVID-19 quarantine for foreign arrivals, people in China reacted gleefully.

And they rushed to schedule international flights, ending nearly three years of self-imposed confinement.

COVID-19 cases have increased dramatically across  China as essential components of the containment strategy have crumbled.

The authorities have admitted that it is impossible to track the outbreak and have abandoned the widely criticised official case tally system.
