MARIGOT–The Collectivité of Saint-Martin, in collaboration with final-year students of the Métiers du Commerce et de la Vente (MCV) program at Daniella Jeffry Vocational High School, will host the opening of a photography exhibition titled “In the Style of Martin Parr” on Wednesday, April 1, at 5:00pm.
The exhibition will be on display in the lobby of the Collectivité building in Marigot from April 1 through April 24, 2026, highlighting contemporary and original photographic perspectives on life in Saint-Martin.
Inspired by the work of renowned British photographer Martin Parr, the students have developed a series of images that reflect on modern society and the unique character of the island. Known for his vivid, often humorous and critical portrayal of everyday life, Parr’s influence is evident in the students’ creative approach and subject matter.
Through this project, students were encouraged to explore current social themes while capturing the distinct identity of Saint-Martin. The initiative also required them to organize a cultural event and engage directly with the public, providing a practical extension of their studies in commerce and sales.
The exhibition forms part of a broader educational program designed to combine academic learning with real-world experience. Students will be assessed during the opening event and as part of their Contrôle en Cours de Formation (CCF), an official evaluation method used in the awarding of vocational diplomas.
The project was developed in partnership with the Collectivité of Saint-Martin and Photo Caraïbes SXM, offering students the opportunity to present their work in a professional setting outside the classroom.
The public is invited to attend the opening reception on April 1 from 5:00p.m. to 7:00p.m. Admission is free. The exhibition will remain open to visitors during regular hours at the Collectivité building until April 24.
